LEEK LIVESTOCK MARKET
The acquisition by Bagshaws LLP of shares in Leek Auctions Ltd in 2008 has been a great success with a thriving partnership having been forged with Graham Watkins and Bruce Daniel remaining active as Company Secretary.
The market has gone from strength to strength seeing dramatic increases in numbers of both dairies, calves and sheep whilst also establishing a large monthly store cattle sale.
Great site improvements have also been undertaken increasing penning and loading facilities.
Dairy numbers on a weekly basis are between 30-50 whilst the newly established monthly Pedigree sales have attracted a great deal of interest both from vendors and purchasers.
The most recent, a show and sale to celebrate the 50 Year Jubilee of the market saw over 70 dairies in the shed, with the ring packed to the rafters and prices peaking at £2800.
Pedigree sales take place every third Tuesday in the month with entries closing for cataloguing 10 days prior.
Dairy dispersal sales are also undertaken, with good facilities and a multitude of active purchasers. Monthly store sales generally see entries of 4-500 with the most recent having 550 entered.
Regular store sheep sales are also undertaken during the autumn / winter months and in 2009 saw a 31% increase in numbers.
Great endeavour has been made to make Leek a market of regional importance particularly in relation to dairy cattle and both vendors and purchasers of all classes of livestock should feel confident visiting Leek market where every effort will be made to satisfy customers needs at this friendly venue.
