More Cattle on offer, but less Sheep with the numbers 656 and 1,463 respectively. The Cattle trade the same or better than last week, Lamb prices lower.

A very decent turnout of 367 Store & Breeding Cattle which included a good sample of Cows and Calves.

Trade for both the young cattle and the short finish types up on the week with Steers to £1,190, Heifers £1,060 and Feeding Bulls £850, Cow & Calf outfits sold to £1,410.

96 Finished Cattle with the best on offer to 239p and £1,494 and trade much as we have seen over recent weeks.

Another good entry of 128 OTM and Feeding Cows with top figures 175p and £1,375. The overall average within 2 pence of last week’s figure at 114.6p

65 Calves this week with Bulls to £345 and Heifers £200.

Things were quieter in the Sheep department with numbers down after last weeks run up to the Muslim Festival.

Finished Lambs peaked at 220p and £98.44 per head with the SQQ rather lower at 172.3p.

In the Cull Sheep section there were only 281 head on offer with Ewes to £119 to average £70.75

128 OTM, BARREN & FEEDING COWS – overall average 114.6p (Auctioneer Oliver Hiles)

Thank you for your support in making the OTM Section at Bakewell one of the best supported in the Country. Trade continues to amaze with more Cows again this week and a packed ring of buyers (16 accounts today) with a retiring face making his presence felt. Top Cow today was a lovely Limousin at 175p or £1284 from David Critchlow, Sheen with all the better sorts topping 150p. Feeding buyers today again competed hard with 36 head going back to new farms to be improved.

63 Black & White and ex dairy cows ave 100.2p

More bite at the bottom today with the best as always easy to sell. Better sorts over 125p with plenty getting to 130p. Good Holsteins 115-125p, leaner Cows 100-110p with only the plainest sorts under £1.

Trade remains brisk but not outstanding with a couple of runs of “Grass Cattle” today that would have stood a period in a yard to finish the job. But at Bakewell we have customers with licenced finishing yards to buy your untested Cattle and keep the trade up.

Mark Hadfield retains the top spot this week selling to 239p for a lovely Limousin with Roger White in second spot at 230p and both purchased by Wayne on behalf of H Meakin, Quality Butchers in Leek. A wonderful 830kg Heifer from Messrs Boden & Davies sold to £1494.

At the other end of the spectrum there were several consignments of oldish, but smaller cattle, which had suffered through last year’s drought. They found a buyer but at more modest prices.

A very good entry of 1493 Sheep included 1171 New Season Lambs. Following last weeks festival prices, Lamb prices back slightly but still above other centres this week. Best Butchers Lambs to 220p/kg and £98.44/head with 14 pens selling at over 200p/kg. Meat is the key factor regardless of weight with some heavyweight Lambs at 214p/kg. Overall average 172.38p/kg which included several pens of Swale x Lambs.

A smaller entry of 281 Cull Ewes and Rams attracted very brisk bidding right from the start with the first Ewe sold topping the day at £119/head for a Texel Ewe. A run of 3 pens from Gawsworth, Cheshire sold to £118 with a bottom price of £106/head. Best Charollais Ewes to £100/head, Suffolks to £97 and Berichon to £99.
