Important Note Regarding The Sale of Store Heifers
At Bakewell stock is sold under The Livestock Auctioneers Association National Conditions of Sale which states that the vendor warrants that a heifer which is not described as having been running with the bull or as having been served or as being in-calf Is not in-calf at the time of sale. This warranty is a 6 Months & 5 Day Warranty.
We have recently had a number of heifers turning up in-calf on finishing farms. This causes all sorts of problems and animal welfare issues.
Please if you are bringing heifers to sell bear in mind your responsibilities under the conditions of sale and if you have any doubt about the status of the animals, make sure the auctioneer is aware, so that potential purchasers can be properly informed. Obviously, in the case of a breach of warranty the vendor may be liable.
Having made that made important matter clear we can now report on a magnificent days trading.
The special entry of 44 Lim x Suckler Bred Heifers from Messrs Porter Brothers of Teversal was a distinct highlight.
Sold in decent bunched of up to 9 animals aged from 11 to 20 Months, the first 3 pens made £950, £810 and £810 this gives some indication of price levels.
