A good entry of dairies forward today ahead of the pedigree sale next Tuesday with a top of £1730 for a heifer from James Woodward. Please take advantage of our pre-entry booking system now in place! See the report for further details.

High demand for prime hogget’s today with a top call of 239p/kg and overall SQQ average of 201p/kg! And a top headage price of £113.85! Cull ewes sold to £117.

A solid trade for barren cattle today with a good entry forward topping at 128p/kg and overall average of 103.83p/kg. More barren and clean cattle required each week!!

A nice show of pigs today with more about on the week. Generally a good trade with bacon pigs to 125p/kg or £130/head.

Plenty of calves on offer today, with returning block calving customers coming forward. Top price of £380 for Blue bull calves and heifers to £250.

A good entry forward and a strong trade throughout realising a pleasing average of 103.83p/kg or £704.81 per head.

Top price of 128p/kg for a 715kg Limousin from S J Wainwright, Poynton with others at 122p/kg for a 725kg Angus from Joseph Torr Ltd, Hurdsfield.

J W Handford & Sons, Aspenshaw sold Meuse Rhine cows to 120p/kg and 119p/kg for 770kg and 780kg.

Top headage price of £932.20, £928.20 and £924 for Meuse Rhine cows with Holsteins to £922.25 and Limousins at £915.20.

Overage steers sold to 165p/kg for a 610kg Simmental from MJ Day, Upper Hulme who also sold a 760kg Holstein steer at 128p/kg. Top headage price of £1006.50 for the Simmental.

Bulls sold to 112p/kg for a 1165kg Angus from Joseph Torr Ltd with a 810kg British Blue bull at 109p/kg from DJ Gould & Son, Ipstones. Top headage price of £1304.80 for the Angus.

CLEAN CATTLE;

A smaller entry forward selling to 164p/kg for a 590kg Hereford steer from S J Potts, Gillow Heath with other steers at 160p/kg for a 530kg Angus from J R Hall, Endon and 156p/kg for a 700kg Simmental from M J Day.

Bulls sold to 163p/kg for a 610kg Hereford from H & E Bailey, Brown Edge who went on to sell another 645kg Hereford for 162p/kg.

Top headage price of £1092 for steers and £1044.90 for bulls.

Entries continue to increase at Leek with many taking advantage of the pre-entry booking system now in place on Mondays. Topping the day at £1730 was James Woodward of Mapperley, Derby with a lovely heifer from the Green family of Whiston who are going out of milk production coming close behind at £1710.

Cows topped at £1670 for a fourth calver shown by Messrs Platt of Gawsworth.

Pedigree sale nest week with plenty of entries forward already which will include 3 stock bulls, one Aberdeen Angus (4 years) and 2 Limousins (24 mths).

A cracking entry of pigs forward today with all types forward and a good trade throughout.

Pork pigs topped at 108p/kg for 53kg and 72kg pigs from S Carey, Uxbridge with a 59kg pig at 98p/kg from the same vendor.

Cutting pigs sold to 118p/kg for a 81kg pig from S Bailey, Biddulph with others a 114p/kg for 82kg and 83kg pigs from J & B Fentem and 108p/kg for 82kg pigs from the same vendor.

A very good entry of bacon pigs selling to 125p/kg for 104kg pigs from Andrew & Tim Carr, Waterfall with others at 120p/kg for 95kg pigs from J & B Fentem and 116p/kg for 86kg pigs from Jess Bailey, Cloudside.

Heavy pigs sold to 104p/kg for 105kg pigs from AH & T Carr, Waterfall with others at 98p/kg for 110kg pigs from J & B Fentem.

Cull sows sold to 68p/kg for a 262kg sow from Chris Hine, Biddulph Park with a 243kg sow at 62p/kg from D J Pope, Watlington and a 265kg sow at 60p/kg from M & K Rowarth, Etwall.

A smaller entry with a short supply of best quality, handy weight hoggs on offer. Those quality sorts on offer were well bid for to a top of 239p/kg and plenty over 230p/kg.

Big hoggs a more difficult trade with seemingly an oversupply nationally. Best however a strong trade and plenty still over £100/head.

A small entry of ewes and lambs sold to £152 for young ewes with doubles, with the average a shade under £50/life.

An excellent show of calves although 5 lots of block calving herds showing 15 or more. Trade generally better with the processing bulls being TRADE OF THE DAY!

Trade all over the place selling from £50 - £380. Better calves nicely over £300 with a super Blue at £380 for Peter Gilman, Thorncliffe. Medium bulls £170 - £250 with smaller bulls competitive but generally under £150.

Up £10 head with four processing orders operating but only a handful selling for rearing. A posh British Friesian made £140 for Ian Gregson, Hanbury. Processing bulls saw the best £55 - £70; mediums £40 - £50 with smalls £20 - £40.

1 Limousin Reared Heifer (3 ½ mths) sold at £385 for ME & DJ Gregory, Drointon.
