A full sheep shed today with a good show of lambs forward with trade much firmer on the week. Top price of 218p/kg with an SQQ average of 183.46p/kg.

A brilliant entry of milkers today with a strong entry of 76 forward and a top call of £2080 for a fresh heifer from P & M Critchlow, Cubley.

Barrens were a better trade and more required each week. A top price of 124p/kg for cows today. Clean sold well up to 216p/kg.

A similar trade for calves again this week with all breeds and qualities forward. Top price of £385 twice for Blue bulls and heifers to £261.

Pigs were a touch steadier today with a top of 120p/kg or £118.80 with weaners to £41/head.

A real shortage in numbers and a better trade for the quality of stock on offer today. Top price today of 124p/kg for a 1010kg Charollais cow from G J Plant, Dilhorne. David Beech of Burnaston sold at 870kg Charollais for 105p/kg.

A better entry today with a top of 216p/kg for a neat 480kg Limousin heifer from Mark Butler of Bagnall who also sold a 515kg Limousin steer for 190p/kg.

Other heifers sold to 191p/kg for a 515kg British Blue from Rushton Spencer, with others at 189p/kg for a 505kg Limousin and 173p/kg for a 520kg Simmental.

Other steers sold to 189p/kg for a 620kg Simmental from Rushton Spencer with a 650kg Hereford at 173p/kg from J W Brandrick & Son.

Just one young bull today from G Stubbs, Wetton at 160p/kg for a 505kg British Blue.

Top headage price of £1216.60 for Hereford steers with heifers to £1036.80 and bulls to £808.

A fantastic entry of 76 Milkers on Tuesday saw every standing in the dairy shed full. Although we didn’t hit the heady heights of last week the trade was solid throughout with plenty of buyers operating.

After their success last week the Critchlows of Cubley dominated the day again showing two smashing heifers by Mars Allround and Delta Lilac. Both giving over 30kg the Lilac daughter topped at £2080 with the other at £1920.

Milky cows from regular vendor Andrew Bunting of Bakewell topped at £1790 for a 36kg 2nd Calver. He also had a 3rd Calver to £1760.

A lovely Ayrshire 3rd Calver from Steve Walker of Sheffield reached £1500. Please note that next week he will have an entry of 30+ Cows at various stages of lactation as part of his on-going Herd Dispersal.

A slightly steadier trade this week, but good numbers forward.

Pork pigs sold to 112p/kg for 69kg pigs from J & B Fentem, Alsop en le Dale, who also sold a 70kg pig at 108p/kg and a pen of five 73kg pigs from W Gregson, Preston sold at 106p/kg.

Cutting pigs sold to 120p/kg for 79kg pigs from J & B Fentem. A 78kg pig made 114p/kg for Steve Bailey and another a 112p/kg for a 79kg pig from the same home.

Bacon pigs sold to 120p/kg for an 87kg pig from Steve Bailey with the Fentem family selling a pen of four 97kg pigs at 116p/kg and Chris Hine realising 114p/kg for 95kg pigs.

Heavier pigs sold to 1110p/kg for 108kg pigs from J & B Fentem who had a 109p/kg pig at 108p/kg and a pair of 106.5kg pigs from J Wheawall at 106p/kg.

Cull sows sold to 53p/kg for a 248kg sow from MC & EA Beattie, Allostock who sold others at 52p/kg for a 266kg sow and 45p/kg twice for 325kg sows. A cull boar from Steve Bailey at 248kg realised 42p/kg.

Nice to see a strong number forward selling on a much firmer trade, particularly for the handy weight types which saw competitive bidding throughout. More 37 - 42kg lambs could have been sold!

Best sorts saw competitive bidding to a top of 218p/kg and more pens over 200p/kg than seen for many months! Many more best types could have been sold.

45kg and over continue to be more difficult to sell however trade was improved circa 5-10p/kg on the week for the heavy lambs. Top headage price of £95.53, £10 up on the week.

Overall SQQ average of 183.46p/kg and all in at 177.1p/kg.

A reduced entry sold on a solid trade to a top of £128 for Texel rams. Best ewes selling to £95 from Jim & Carol Hudson. Best mules £60 - £70/head with half meated types £45 - £55 per head.

Good numbers again with more continentals about and trade generally fairly similar to what we have come to expect.

50 Continental Bulls av £231.88

Best sorts remain a very competitive trade with the top 14 over £310 topping at £385 (twice) for Blue bulls from W Wood, Rushton Spencer and G Clews, Biddulph. Medium bulls £220 - £280 with 12 smaller sorts under £150.

Mediums generally £130 - £170 with 15 smaller sorts under £100.

A big Holstein made £120 for D W & P Hulme (32 days) with a British Friesian (15 days) sold at £90. 2 Montys sold at £188 and £170 for W H Townsend & Son. Processing calves generally £20 - £50 today.

2 Reared Blue heifers (2 ½ mths) sold at £358/head for D Johnson, Halmerend.
