The trade for all classes of dairy cattle were on fire at Leek on Tuesday with numerous purchasers in attendance, many of which walked away empty handed.

The day saw the weekly commercial section together with two special entries, the first 29 In-calf Heifers from Messrs Woodward of Mapperley and the second the herd dispersal on behalf of Le Marchant Farms, Nottingham.

Trade set of at a lick in the commercial section with the first through the ring, a Swedish Red X from Messrs Howe reaching £1870. Their second heifer, a Blue Albion was close behind at £1800.

Topping the day at £2110 was Stuart Greenall of Tansley for a Cogent Twist daughter with Messrs Platt of Bamford hot in pursuit at £2100 for a 36kg heifer. A heifer from Andrew Weston of Litton reached £2090. Numerous others were in the £1800-£2000 bracket to produce a fantastic overall average of £1662 which included animals with faults.

The final consignment of black and whites from the Woodward family of Mapperley created a lot of interest no doubt drawn by the obvious quality on offer. The group of 29 In-calf Heifers due July – September saw the best to £1900 with 18 passing the £1700 mark. The whole entry averaged £1697.

The herd dispersal on behalf of Le Marchant Farms of Colston Bassett saw the milkers top at £1860 for a fresh Ayrshire second calver with In-calf heifers reaching £1760 and Bullers to £1020.

More milkers are certainly needed to satisfy demand so please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any to sell. Ring Meg Elliott on 07967 007049.
