Another busy day at Leek with a superb entry of dairy heifers selling to £2470 for the Johnson family of Longnor with their entry of 10 averaging £2123.

Slightly more cull cattle about with trade improved on the week with Blonde’s to 148p/kg and clean cattle to 222p/kg for a neat Limousin heifer.

Stronger trade for pigs this week, with averages up across the board and some good quality stock forward selling to 150p/kg for cutters and 148p/kg for baconers

The sheep shed looking much better today with more numbers forward as required for the orders, although prices slightly back on the week as to be expected selling to 235p/kg, and ewes to £92/head.

A bumper entry of calves this Tuesday which is great to see, with trade much of par with previous weeks topping at £380 for a Charolais bull calf and heifer calves at £305 for a British Blue.

More barren cattle about this week and an improved trade on last week. Top price of 148p/kg today for a 735kg Blonde from A Cheetham, Buglawton with black & white’s to 139p/kg for a 720kg Holstein from BP & JR Needham.

Top headage price of £1118 for Mrs Cheetham’s Angus cow with Blondes to £1087.80.

Two overage bulls from Alan Hague, Wildboarclough sold for 133p/kg for a 580kg British Blue and 132p/kg for a 535kg Limousin bull.

Top price of 222p/kg for a lovely 440kg Limousin heifer from Mark Butler, Bagnall. Other heifers sold to 197p/kg for a 610kg Angus and 194p/kg for a 620kg Limousin from R & YM Moss, Crewe.

Steers sold to 180p/kg twice for a 565kg Charolais and 565kg Limousin, both from SP & EE Richardson, Ipstones. They also sold a 580kg Charolais at 179p/kg. A 640kg Limousin steer sold at 176p/kg from R & YM Moss, Crewe.

Young bulls sold to 158p/kg for a 580kg Simmental from David Kennerley, Betley with Friesian bulls from J E Archer, Hilton at 156p/kg, 150p/kg and 143p/kg.

Top headage price of £1202.80 for heifers, £1126.40 for steers and £952.50 for bulls.

An outstanding trade for milkers at Leek on Tuesday saw the Johnson Family of Longnor dominate the day topping at £2470, with 8 out of their 10 heifers passing the £2000 mark and all 10 averaging a superb £2123.

An immensely stylish white heifer giving 31kg topped at £2470 despite still needing a kick bar with others hot in pursuit at £2320 and £2200.

Cows topped at £1570 for a Brown Swiss third calver from the Davies family of Puddington.

Next week we have a big Pedigree Sale which includes a fantastic entry of Ayrshires from Messrs Harris comprising 13 Fresh Cows and Heifers, 4 Springing Heifers and 14 Yearlings.

The sale also features 12 springing heifers from the Claremead Herd of Messrs Clarke, 5 Stock Bulls:- Aberdeen Angus, Simmentals x2, Hereford and a Blonde.

Pork pigs sold to 124p/kg for 71kg pigs from J & B Fentem, Alsop.

Cutting pigs sold to 150p/kg for 83kg pigs from PF & PD Parsons, Maelor with an 80kg pig from Chris Hine at 142p/kg and the Fentem family selling cutters to 138p/kg and 136p/kg.

Half the entry of baconers but a super trade this Tuesday! Top of 148p/kg for a 96kg pig from Chris Hine, with a single 102kg pigs from J & B Fentem at 146p/kg and a single 95kg pig from J Davenport, Macclesfield at 144p/kg. The Fentem family sold baconers to 142p/kg, 140p/kg, 138p/kg and 134p/kg.

Heavy pigs sold to 120p/kg for a 140kg pig from J & B Fentem, Alsop who sold a 109kg pig for 118p/kg.

A pen of 8 store pigs from S Proctor, Longnor sold to £40/head with a pen of 3 at £38 from M & K Rowarth, Etwall.

A better entry sold on a very solid trade albeit at slightly lower levels than the previous weeks flyer. Overall average a solid 191p/kg for a variable entry.

Best on offer sold very well to 235p/kg with numerous pens at 230p and better. Plenty of the best at £90 plus up to £103/head.

Plainer sorts at 175p - 185p having an impact on the overall average but still finding willing purchasers.
