Good numbers forward in most sections today. A much improved trade was seen in the sheep section with lambs up on the week to a top of 196p/kg and average of 165.8p/kg.

Quality continues to sell well, with dairies topped at £1830 for a heifer from Curbishley Farms. Next week is the Pedigree sale and catalogues will be online shortly.

More numbers in the barren and clean today with 52 barrens to a top of 160p/kg for a Angus and clean to a top of 190p/kg for a Limousin steer and a British Blue heifer.

A busy calf shed today with 196 forward and plenty of buyers around the ring. Top price of £392 for a Blue bull calf and heifers to £252.

Pigs were a steadier trade today, with 85 forward and a top of 134p/kg for bacon pigs.

A nice trade for barren cattle today. A top price of 160p/kg for a 640kg Angus from Rushton Spencer.

A 805kg Limousin from Ian Cook, Biddulph sold well to 131p/kg who had a 650kg Shorthorn realise 127p/kg.

A 705kg Dairy Shorthorn from P G Beswick & Sons realised 116p/kg with a Shorthorn from PT Beswick, Cauldon at 114.5p/kg. Black & Whites sold to 109.5p/kg for a 700kg Holstein from RG &AS Williamson.

Overall average of 93.08p/kg or £623.57 per head.

Top headage prices of £1054.55 for Limousins from Ian Cook, with Angus’ to £1024. Black and whites topped at £843.15.

A 36 month old Angus steer from A P Buckle weighed 940kg and sold for 129p/kg to gross £1212.60.

A lot more clean cattle about today and a good trade throughout.

Steers sold to 190p/kg for a 605kg Limousin from Peter Richardson, Ipstones who also sold a 555kg Limousin for 180p/kg. Other steers sold at 180p/kg for a 680kg Limousin from Mrs P Mitchell, Brown Lees. Reg Bould sol steers at 171p/kg for a 670kg Hereford and a 750kg Hereford and 625kg Angus both sold at 170p/kg.

Heifers topped at 190p/kg for a 570kg British Blue from Reg Critchlow, Grindon. A 630kg Limousin heifer from Mrs P Mitchell sold for 179p/kg with another 570kg Limousin from Rushton Spencer realising 179p/kg.

Young bulls topped at 184p/kg for a 720kg Simmental from Rushton Spencer.

Top headage prices of £1298.60 for a 806kg Blonde steer from Mrs P Mitchell with others at £1275 for Hereford steers and £1224 for Limousins. Heifers topped at £1127.70 with bulls to £1324.80.

As is the case for most sections at the minute, the best sold well with all other qualities meeting a mixed trade.

Topping the day at £1830 was a lovely milky heifer from Curbishley Farms of Congleton to Messrs Holdcroft of Sandbach. Close behind at £1770 was a beautiful heifer from Stuart Greenall of Tansley. She went to Messrs Hargreaves. They also went on to take a heifer from Messrs Brown of Spondon at £1710.

Also at £1710 was a heifer from Edward & Diane Bennett of Whiston.

Pigs were a steadier trade, with the second and third quality types harder to place.

Only one pork pig forward selling at 126p/kg for a 73kg pig from J & B Fentem & Sons.

Cutting pigs sold to 120p/kg for a pen of 83.2kg pigs from J & B Fentem who sold others at 78.6kg, 80.7kg and 84kg pigs at 114p/kg.

Bacon pigs topped at 134p/kg for a 92kg pigs from J & B Fentem who also sold 87kg and 87.6kg pigs for 120p/kg. A pair of 93kg pigs from Steve Bailey sold for 114p/kg.

Heavier pigs sold to 110p/kg twice for 110kg and 106kg pigs from Chris Hine.

Cull sows sold well to 63p/kg for a 275kg sow from MC & EA Beattie who sold a 322kg sow at 58p/kg and a 237kg sow at 45p/kg. A 269kg sow from JT Needham, Bradnop realised 48p/kg.

A much improved trade on last week, especially for the heavier weights. A top price of 196p/kg was achieved twice for vendors Smith & Wardman, Longnor and David Elliott, Tideswell.

Overall average of 165.8p/kg.

A steadier trade for ewes today in line with the trade nationally. A lot of plainer sorts forward but strong continentals sold to a top of £92 for A Williams, Basford.

An increased entry of 196 rearing calves on offer saw buyers out in force and best continental bulls peaking at £392 and 10 over £325 with heifers to £252.
