An excellent entry of 614 store and breeding cattle were presented at the recent sale, with many buyers in attendance looking for all categories of stock.

Breeding Section

There was a shortage of good quality outfits with calves at foot, with a large proportion of the entry being in calf cows including a part herd reduction on behalf of J E & C W Kidd of Quarnford, which sold up to £955 for a Blonde D’Aquataine in calf cow, with Aberdeen Angus up to £890, £885 and £875. A Limousin in calf cow also from the herd reduction also exchanged hands for £875.

A pair of in calf British Blue heifers from R Critchlow of Grindon sold up to £1050, with feeding cows up to £930 for an Aberdeen Angus from K Simm of Church Broughton and £685 for Limousin feeding cows from C Wain of Upper Hulme.

Young Bulls

Top price in the young bull section was for a 19 month old Limousin bull from W E Turnock

& Sons of Onecote which exchanged hands at £1360, with second similar animal at £1180.

A 14 month old Charolais from J & R Driver of Chisworth sold for £855, with a 12 month old Limousin bull from F W Kirkham of Earl Sterndale at £845 and a 13 month old Hereford bull from M Cotterill of Knutton at £740.

Steers

There were 269 steers presented for sale, which produced a very pleasing average of £773.83.

Top price of the day was £1275 which was paid for a pair of 29 month old Limousin steers from K Sessions of Alkmonton.

Regular vendor M Ollerenshaw of Bradwell received £1245 for a 18 month old Simmental and the same price for two 24 month old Blonde D’Aquataine steers.

A pair of Limousin steers from A & K Farming of Rushton being 18 months old were also well sold at £1225. A further Blonde D’Aquataine Steer being 25 months old from M Ollerenshaw exchanged hands for £1195.

A large entry of strong stores from A W & D Kennerley & Son of Betley sold to a top price of £1125 which was paid for a group of five 22 month old Aberdeen Angus steers, with a 26 month old Charolais also at £1125, a further group of three Aberdeen Angus steers being 22 months at £1075 and a pair of British Blue steers being 26 months old exchanging hands also for £1075.

Charolais steers from R Worthington of Edale topped at £1170 for a 25 months, with a group of three at 23 months old from the same vendor at £1130.

A 27 month old Limousin steer from K Unwin of Lask Edge was well sold at £1145, who also sold a 30 month old Hereford steer at £1075.

A pair of 23 month old British Blue steer from A P Wain of Forsbrook exchanged hands for £1190, with a 24 month old Simmental steer from L A & M A Done & Sons of Bosley at £1120.

A 23 month old Hereford steer from A Swindells of Elkstones was well sold at £1120.

Younger steers sold up to £950 for 11 month old Limousin steers from Bolshaw Farm Partnership of Rainow, with another group of similar cattle from the same vendor at £905.

A group of 11 – 12 month old Simmental steers from J & R Driver of Chisworth were well sold at £880 and 11 – 12 month old Limousins from A J & L E Bailey of Grindon at £865.

A group of 16 – 19 month old Friesian steers from P Massey & Son of Admaston sold up to £760.

Heifers

Top price of the day for heifers was £1200 which was paid for a 24 month old Aberdeen Angus from A P Wain of Forsbrook, with a 24 month old Limousin heifer from the same vendor at £1135.

18 Month old Limousin heifers from A & K Farming of Heaton sold up to £1105, with a second at £1075.

G Tomlinson of Abbots Bromley sold a 23 month old British Blue at £1100, with a 23 month old Simmental heifer from L A & M A Done & Son of Bosley selling for £1060.

A 21 month old Limousin heifer from K W & A M Minshull of Bosley exchanged hands at £1045, with a 22 month old Simmental from the same vendor at £1040.

A W & D Kennerley & Son of Betley sold a 22 month old Limousin at £1070, with a group of three Simmental heifers at 26 months old from the same vendor at £1010.

A Saler heifer at 18 months old from W V & S A Ackerley of Oakhanger sold for £990, with a pedigree Shorthorn heifer at 19 months old from T Evans of Rough Close at £860.

Younger heifers sold up to £865 for a group of 11 month old Limousin heifers from Bolshaw Farm Partnership of Rainow, with two groups of 10 month old Limousins from R Flower of Alstonefield at £810 and £800.

Overall average achieved for heifers was £687.91.
