A total entry of 440 store and breeding cattle were presented for sale with plenty of buyers around the ring ensuring a firm trade for all types of stock.

Breeding Section

Cows with calves at foot saw a firmer trade than two weeks ago, although there was a shortage of best quality outfits.

Top price was £1160 which was paid for a Limousin cow with a Limousin steer calf at foot from Mr Booth of Chesterton, with a second outfit from the same vendor being a Limousin cow with a Limousin bull calf at £1150.

A Simmental heifer with a Lincoln red bull calf from S Burford of Hayfield was well sold at £1090.

An entry from D Naylor of Glossop sold up to £1100 for an Aberdeen Angus cow with a Charolais heifer calf at foot, a £1080 was paid for an Aberdeen Angus cow with a Charolais steer calf and a £1000 for a further Aberdeen Angus cow with a Hereford bull calf at foot.

Stock Bulls

These sold to a top of £1700 for a 16 month old pedigree Limousin from M Rowlinson of Ramshorn, with a 6 year old pedigree Shorthorn bull from T J & M Groves of Brewood exchanging hands for £1190 and a Lincoln Red bull from S Burford of Hayfield selling for £900.

Young Bulls

Again, there was a shortage of young bulls, with a top price of £770 which was paid for a group of three, 7 month old Simmentals from B Chadwick of Hilton, with a 16 month old Hereford from G M Booth of Chesterton at £740.

Steers

There were 232 steers forward, with top price of section being £1075, which was paid for a 24 month old Aberdeen Angus from A E Allcock of Waterhouses, with other Aberdeen Angus from the same vendor at £1020 for a pair at 25 months old and £995 for a group of seven 22 month old Aberdeen Angus from new vendor, S Pennington & Sons of Altrincham.

British Blue steers also topped at £1075, which was paid for a pair of 22 month old cattle from Atkin Farms of Field, with a group of four, 21 month old British Blue steers from D & S Ede Ltd of Cubley at £925.

A single 24 month old Hereford from J Jervis of Cheadle sold for £1045, with a 24 month old Charolais from I Wilson & Family of Hollington at £1040 and a pair of Charolais’ from

Atkin Farms being 21 months old exchanging hands for £1000.

Simmental steers being 20 months old from Atkin Farms sold up to £990, with a single Simmental from L A & M A Done of Bosley, being 26 months old selling for £980.

Limousin steers from P Rowbotham of Ipstones being 26 months old sold up to £945, with a 15 month old Limousin from P J Bailey of Grindon at £930.

Blonde D’Aquataine steers from P Naden of Cheddleton being 24 months old exchanged hands for £930, with a 24 month old Fleckveih steer from the same vendor at £900.

Shorthorns sold up to £860 from J & R Potts of Macclesfield being 15 months old.

Overall average of £689.85.

Heifers

There were 155 heifers on offer, which saw a top price of £1010 for a 25 month old Simmental from Ms S Roberts of Bosley with a 26 month old Simmental from D & A Stonier of Eaton at £960 and another Simmental heifer being 26 months old from L A & M A Done of Bosley at £925.

A pair of 25 month old British Blue heifers from J Jervis of Cheadle exchanged hands at £1005, with a single British Blue being 16 months old from J & R Potts of Macclesfield at £950.

Hereford heifers topped at £970 for a 24 month old Hereford from Ms S Roberts.

A 26 month old Simmental from D & A Stonier at £960 and a 26 month old Simmental from L A & M A Done at £925.

A pair of Shorthorn heifers being 24 months old from R F Hinchcliffe of Whaley Bridge sold for £905, with a 22 month old Blonde D’Aquataine from Atkin Farms of Field selling for £900.

Overall average of £709.61
