Leek Store Cattle Sale Report for Saturday 15th July 2017

A total entry of 439 store and breeding cattle were on offer, with some good quality cattle being presented for sale ensuring the good company of buyers were well satisfied.

Breeding Section

A Limousin suckler cow with a Limousin bull calf at foot from D W Harrison of Priestcliffe was particularly well sold at £1620, with other top prices including £1500 paid for a Limousin cow with a Limousin heifer calf at foot from G Rowlinson of Denstone, with a similar outfit from the same vendor at £1490.

£1350 was paid for an Aberdeen Angus cow with an Aberdeen Angus heifer calf and £1310 was paid for an Aberdeen Angus cow with an Aberdeen Angus bull calf, both presented for sale by M W Woodward of Whiston.

Breeding Heifers

These topped at £1000 for a 26 month old Limousin heifer from Mrs Goldstraw of Wetley Rocks, with a group of three pure bred Limousins from M Butler of Bagnall being 12 - 15 months old exchanging hands for £880.

Stock Bulls

Breeding bulls were particularly well sold, with a Pedigree Simmental bull from Messrs Smith of Spath being 16 months old selling for £2060, with a second Pedigree Simmental from the same vendor at 13 months old achieving £1700.

A Pedigree Hereford bull from S Roberts of Leek realised £1580, with another Hereford being bull being 27 months old from G Goodwin of Wetley Rocks exchanging hands for £1330.

Bulls

In the young bull section, there was a shortage of strong sorts, with a pair a 13 month old Limousins from J & M Bradbury of Ipstones selling at £780, with a group of three 10 - 12 month old Limousins from the same vendor at £750.

A pair of 15 month old Simmentals from S Smith of Meerbrook achieved £740, with a 13 month old Simmental from Bradda Farms, Biddulph at £730.

Overall average for young bulls including a number of smaller sorts was £426.45.

Steers

In the steer section, there were 220 on offer and a very firm trade throughout which saw a top price of £1415 which was paid for a 25 month old Charolais from G W Mellor of Gawsworth, with other Charolais’ being 25 months old from the same vendor at £1400 and £1385.

Other Charolais’ sold up to £1235 for a group of three 24 month old animals from R Hine of Gratton, with a single 15 month Charolais from D & G Tudor of Kingsley at £1150.

Limousin steers, again from G W Mellor, being 28 months old sold for £1410, with a single25 month old Limousin from M Jervis of Whiston at £1300 and a pair from P Nixon of Timbersbrook being 23 months old at £1290.

A single 24 month old Limousin from A & N Swinson of Gawsworth was well sold at £1215 and a single 24 month old Limousin from M Jervis of Whiston at £1180.

Aberdeen Angus steers topped at £1370 for a 22 month old from A & N Swinson, with a pair of 26 month Aberdeen Angus from S Pye of Swythemley at £1330 and another pair from the same vendor being 25 months old at £1265.

Blonde D’Aquataine steers from P Nixon of Timbersbrook being 23 months old sold up to £1335, with a group of three from the same vendor, also at 23 months old exchanging handsfor £1280. A further pair of Blonde D’Aquataine steers being 28 months old from S Pye of Swythamley at £1255.

Simmental steers from D Cope of Endon being 25 months old sold for £1280, with a single from R Hine of Gratton being 20 months old at £1275 and a group of three from David Cope being 25 months old at £1150.

British Blue steers from G Forrester of Abbots Bromley being 20 months old were well sold up to £1200.

Hereford steers topped at £1140 for a 24 month old steer from M Jervis.

Fleckveich steers being 21 months old from D Cope sold up to £1055, with Shorthorn steers at 23 months old up to £985 from Anders Agricultural of Roston and Montbeliarde’s topping at £990 from G Forrester.

Younger steers topped at £1080 for a group of three 13 month old Charolais’ from D & G Tudor and 11 month old Limousins from W S Hudson of Ilam at £1150 and a further group of three Limousins being 9 months old from the same vendor at £890.

Overall average for steers was a pleasing £848.61.

Heifers

There were 155 heifers on offer, returning an excellent average of £800.55 and seeing a topprice of £1170 which was paid for a pair of 23 month old Limousin’s from G W Mellor of Gawsworth, with another 23 month old Limousin from F Potter & Sons of Yeaveley at £1110 and a 22 month old Limousin from P Williams of Tean at £1105 and others at £1080, £1075 and £1070.

Hereford heifers from A & N Swinson of Gawsworth were well sold at 25 months old up to £1140. P Nixon of Timbersbrook also realised £1140 for a pair of 23 month old Aberdeen Angus heifers and a pair of Aberdeen Angus from S Pye of Swythamley being 27 months old sold for £1120.

British Blue heifers being 30 months old from D Burton of Rough Close topped at £1025.

Blonde D’Aquataine heifers from C H Ede & Sons of Someral Herbert being 13 month old topped at £1,000 and a further group of 12 month old Blonde D’Aquataine heifers from the same vendor at £990.

Charolais heifers at 21 months old sold up to £980 from D Burton.

Younger sorts sold up to £840 for a group of four 12 month old Limousins from F R Alcock of Cheadle, with a group of three 13 month old Aberdeen Angus from G Sidebottom of Marple Bridge at £830 and three British Blue heifers at 9 months old at £790 from H J Hitchcock of Belper.
