Woodland Plank Gate, Wortley, Sheffield S35 7DL
For sale by auction at 3.00pm, Monday 24th July 2023 at The Agricultural Business Centre, Bakewell, DE45 1AH
The wood occupies an elevated position to the east of Plank Gate, an unadopted track towards the western end of Finkle Street Lane, just under a mile out of the village of Wortley, near the old railway station. Stocksbridge is the nearest town, approximately two and a half miles away. Sheffield lies approximately ten miles. Farmland adjoins the wood on the east side.
A pleasant, mature woodland, extending to approximately 0.37 acres (0.15 hectares), comprising largely native broad leaved trees: oak, beech, sycamore, silver birch and alder. The woodland would benefit from some scrub management.
Access is by public footpath only; coming up from Plank Gate the path enters the wood at the northwest corner, skirts the west and south boundaries, then goes over a stone step stile in the southeast corner. It is only a short distance from Plank Gate to reach the wood, approximately 40m.
On site Structures
There are two built structures within the wood, labelled ‘tanks’ on the Ordnance Survey map. One is small and shallow, measuring just a few square metres; the second one is larger, in the region of 100sqm and deep, posing a potential hazard. There is no clearly defined boundary to the west, which falls roughly along the line of a small escarpment. The short south boundary follows the line of the footpath. The north and east boundaries are clearly defined dry stone walls in reasonable condition.
Local Planning Authority
The Local Planning Authority is Barnsley Council.
From Wortley travelling southbound on the A629, take a right turn onto Finkle Street Lane continue on this road for approximately 900m before turning left onto Plank Gate, the land lies on the left hand side as indicated by our For Sale board.
