Bakewell Market Report Monday 8th December

Another very busy Monday with 731 cattle and 1,746 sheep on offer.

Is this the last big Monday sale of 2025? We will find out next week.

Solid trade in all departments with store cattle definitely the hottest section.

There were 394 head of store and breeding cattle the numbers swelled by a special entry from C Smithem of Pilsley.

The entry of mostly pedigree Limousin cows in calf for Spring reached £2,300 to average exactly £2,000.  Breeding bulls were also in demand with Angus to £3,500.

In the regular stores steers reached £2,360 to average £1,532, heifers £2,080 to average £1,254 and feeding bulls to £2,180 to average £1,163.

A decent show of 136 finished cattle sold on an easier trade with top figures of 452p and £3,145.

The average for the 69 heifers was 364.1p and £2,207 per head.

A similar trade in the OTM department with prices a shade less for the large entry of 162 head.

Top figures 360p/kg and £3,252 with the average still looking good at 245.3p and £1,629 per head.

Only 36 calves this week with bulls to £445 and heifers £395.

In the sheep section there was a good turnout of 1,401 lambs although several vendors remarked that this was the last of the 2025 crop.
