Livestock & Dairy: Bakewell Market

Bakewell Market Report Monday 29th December

Very busy in the sheep department, rather quieter the cattle sections with entries totalling 2,030 sheep and 74 cattle.

Plenty of farming folk present in the market clearly ready for a change of scenery.  Buyers out in sufficient force to ensure a decent trade for the stock on offer.

Only a handful of store & breeding cattle, but well sold with an in-calf cow at £1,700 and yearling stores to £1,100.

Next Monday 5th January we are back to normal.  The store cattle list will be compiled on Friday morning (2nd January) so please ring your entries in before Friday 12 noon.

A nice few finished cattle with 43 on parade, a respectable turnout for a Christmas holiday market.

Top figures 466p and £3,311 per head.  The average for the 20 heifers was 276.9p and £2,250 per head.

17 OTM cows on offer with the best of the bunch to 268p and £2,083 per head, the average 219.6p or £1,449 per head.

A bumper crop of 1,527 lambs sold on a sharp trade with top figures 432p/kg and £200 per head.
