Bakewell Market Thursday Lunchtime Sheep Sale Thursday 5th March

261 Sheep including 150 Lambs, 26 Ewes & Rams & 85 Store Sheep

 

A small entry of 261 sheep sold on a very brisk trade with all buyers competing to try and fill loads if possible.  Finished big lambs saw a top of 400p/kg twice and top gross of £205.86/head.  Overall market average of 357.8p/kg did not reflect the true trade of the day.

Only 26 cull sheep this week with trade on fire.  Texels to £226 and a pen of 9 horned ewes to £123.

Store Sheep

A good seasonal entry of 85 store sheep included 68 feeding lambs with plenty of demand for all types.

Best continentals to £135, Mules to £120 and Cheviots to £126.

Just one lot of Mule ewes which had r/w the ram sold at £102.
