Bakewell Market Report Tuesday 7th April
The usual very quiet Tuesday market with small numbers of stock on offer with 89 cattle and 477 sheep.
Sufficient buyers were present, however, to ensure a more satisfactory trade.
There were 41 store cattle on offer all well bid for with sample prices later in this report. Steers to £1,990, heifers to £2,180 and bulls to £1,680.
30 finished cattle forward with top figures 427p/kg and £2,562 per head.
The averages for the 17 heifers were 365.8p and £2,394 per head – a very satisfactory result in uncertain times.
Just 13 OTM cattle with the best on offer to 310p/kg and £2,217 per head. The average looked a bit middling at 229.7p, but reflects the quality of the entry.
5 calves with heifers to £710 and the best bull on offer to £350.
A bit of all sorts in the sheep department starting with 24 Spring lambs, these topped at 620p/kg and £257.50 per head. The SQQ average was 570.2 pence making a typical lamb in the 39-45kg bracket worth £222.75.
The selection of 387 hoggs included a good many ‘last of the season’ consignments. The best on offer reached 472p/kg and £225.14 per head.
The SQQ figure was 404.0p making a typical lamb in the 39-45 bracket worth £179.11.
Only 66 cull sheep with ewes to £260 average £175.
