Livestock & Dairy: Bakewell Market

Bakewell Market Report Monday 15th June

A slightly quieter day than last week with a total of 558 cattle and 946 sheep with a decent trade reported in all departments.

A total of 132 finished cattle with numbers back on last weeks bumper entry with Oliver reporting them less money than of late and possibly a shade dearer for some.  Heifers peaked at 427p/kg and steers to 416p with top price of £3,025 in the lump.

A similar story for an entry of 81 OTM’s with tops 328p/kg and £2932 per head.

Store & breeding cattle numbers totalled 312 with trade reported as strong given the reduced finished cattle returns.  Breeding outfits to £2,440, Steers to £2,220 and heifers £2,030.

The finished lamb trade remains exceptional for the time of year to average 458p/kg for an entry of 568 head and an overall average of £198/head.  Hoggs continuing to dry up, whilst the 274 ewes looking very well sold to a top of £320 and an overall average of £170.

Just 33 calves, but trade as strong as ever with bulls to £780 and heifers to £690.
