Livestock & Dairy: Bakewell Market
Bakewell Market Report Monday 6th July
Another warm day with many farmers still busy with the grass harvest and some moving on to straw carting.
Entries modest with 511 cattle and 698 sheep.
Trade solid in all sections, finished cattle about the same as last week, OTM’s selling well and lambs holding their own at a time of year when they are usually falling fast.
236 store & breeding cattle on offer with trade even sharper than last week.
Steers to £2,440, heifers £2,140 and feeding bulls £1,860.
The shortage of numbers is certainly driving the trade with buyers having to work very hard to secure loads. In the breeding section a Ped Lim cow & calf made £3,600.
Finished numbers looked good at 149 with trade much as last week.
Top figures of 456p and £3,486 tells part of the story.

85 OTM cattle was a decent entry for the time of year and these sold on a good trade with top figures 332p and £2,465.

In the sheep department there were 539 lambs which looked well sold on the day. Top figures 440p/kg and £238/head.
The SQQ average was 391.0 pence making a typical lamb in the 39-45kg bracket worth £167.52.
