Bakewell Market Orange Sale 11-02-2022

BAKEWELL MARKET

“Orange Sale”

Sale of TB restricted cattle – Friday 11th February 2022

The first sale of ‘Orange Cattle’ of the year took place on Friday.  All cattle from the sale have to go to Approved Finishing Units (AFU) or direct to slaughter.

The sales have become a regular fixture at Bakewell and are a way for farms shut down with TB to sell feeding cattle in an open auction through the ring with a line up of buyers who want the sales to be successful.

The buyers gathered at ringside all armed with the appropriate AFU and bid freely for the cattle on offer.  To these buyers it makes no difference that that they are restricted and they bid as they would on a normal Monday for the goods on offer.  The stronger cattle remain a fantastic price with little change to a Monday unrestricted price, but younger stores that would normally benefit from a summer at grass a little less money.
