“Orange Sale”
Sale of TB restricted cattle – Friday 17th December 2021
The pre-Christmas sale of Orange ‘restricted ‘cattle took place today. All cattle from these sales have to go direct to slaughter or to an Approved Finishing Unit (AFU) for feeding.
The sales have become somewhat of a regular fixture at Bakewell and are a way for farms shut down with TB to sell feeding cattle to the fattening yards through a live auction ring.
The buyers gathered at ringside all armed with the necessary AFU’s and bid freely for the cattle on offer. To those buyers it makes no difference that the cattle are under restriction and they bid as they would on a normal Monday Sale for what they wanted. The trade for the stronger cattle is very similar to an unrestricted sale but the slightly younger or smaller stores are a little less.
