“Orange Sale”
Sale of TB restricted cattle – Friday 11th March 2022
This was the second sale of the year and the next in the series of sales to help farmers shut down under TB restriction to sell cattle in an open market in the live auction scenario. The cattle can go straight to slaughter or to Approved Finishing Units but the cattle have to remain in the fattening yards.
The sales have now become a regular fixture at Bakewell and a grand line up of buyers amassed for today’s sale. It was the biggest sale of Orange Cattle that we have had to date and that was in part due to a substantial entry of 225 head from Messr Martin Farms at Alfreton.
Trade for the big cattle with age in good forward order would be similar to that on a regular ‘Green’ Monday.
83 head of the Martin consignment sold over £1000. The sale was further enhanced by a super consignment of suckler bred cattle from FH Sargent & Son, Etwall who sold over 28 Lim x BB suckled calves and young stores.
The next sale will be held on Friday 1st April with the second half of the Martin dispersal of approximately 250 cattle with further consignments invited.
