STORE & BREEDING CATTLE – (Auctioneer Alastair Sneddon)

The entry of 63 head of stock was achieved without having to put any vendors off to a future week.  This suggests that the very large numbers we have seen over recent weeks are perhaps coming to an end.

Next week is a Tuesday market with a small entry likely, but those who do sell on a Tuesday market usually find prices more than satisfactory.

The sale commenced with some 40 Breeding Stock which included:

A nice run of heifers with calves

£1840 Hfd x, 29 mnths & Hfr Calf Wooliscroft Garage, Snelston
£1800 AA x, 35 mnths & Str Calf Wooliscroft Garage, Snelston

284 Steers ave £928

A very mixed sample of cattle on offer with some outstanding specimens, but at the other end of the spectrum there were plenty that were small for their age and were priced accordingly.

Angus & Hereford crosses sold particularly well and the Black & Whites on offer were very dear indeed.

541Cull Sheep

A very good pre shearing seasonal entry and if anything, the middle-class medium meat was a stronger trade but the very best were few and far between.

Top call £170 for Texels from the Simpson family at New Road, Longnor.

Best Texels £150 to £170 with strong Suffolks towards £150 and best Mules £110 plus.  Small end types a strong trade with small Herdwicks over £60 and some strong Gritstones in the mid-£90 range.

The cull rams a mixed entry but trade good for all sectors.

Blue Texels to £174 for Andrew Henshaw with other Texels to £158.
