Bakewell Market Report 30-05-2023

Modest entries for the Tuesday Bank Holiday week market with only 185 cattle and 592 sheep.  All vendors who did support the fixture were rewarded with an excellent trade in all sections and a total clearance was effected.

 

There were 121 head in the store and breeding cattle section and a comprehensive line up buyers ensured a tremendous trade.

Even with the small entry there were steers to £1,570 and heifers £1,450.  In the breeding section cows and calves peaked at £2,200 for a commercial outfit.

 

There were 33 finished cattle on offer with the best to 327p/kg and £2,183/head.

The 24 heifers averaged 289p and £1,736 per head.

 

Only 25 OTM cattle with the best on offer to 270p/kg and £2,057/head.  The average was a healthy 200p/kg.

 

12 calves forward with bulls to £290 and heifers £245.

 

In the sheep section we had 199 Spring lambs with top figures 410p/kg and £171.86 per head.  The SQQ average was 375.0p and the average per head for the 39-45kg range was a remarkable £158.46.

 

198 hoggs on offer with many vendors bringing their last few.  Top figures 308p and £162.43

The SQQ settled at 273.8p with the overall 277.7p/kg.

Finally, there were 195 cull sheep with ewes to £169 to average £120.72.

Just a small sample for the Bank Holiday sale and trade very much in line with all buyers either there or represented.  Two lovely pure Lims sold at 270p/kg each with the best one at £2057.  7 B/W cows in the entry today sold to 180p/kg.

Trade was at least as good as last Monday and, in some instances, might have been even better.
