STORE & BREEDING CATTLE – (Auctioneer Alastair Sneddon)

Another good entry with a total of 322 on offer.

Some excellent level bunches certainly commanded a premium and added to more general highlights.

We had a full line up of buyers some from considerable distances and we could certainly have sold more cattle had they been available,

If you have cattle in test, do not hesitate to book them in, there is plenty of trade at present.

The sale started with a few Breeding Cattle followed by some 26 Feeding Bulls which achieved:

£1000 Char x 18 mnths J & SJ Tunstall, Heage

£925 Lim x 7 mnths S Leason, Sudbury
£790 AA x 6-7 mnths M Wilson, Matlock

437 Cull Sheep

A very varied entry but the trade very good and the very best 10% probably dearer than last week.

The sale started with a superb run of pens from Jason Craddock of Bolton by Bowland who topped the day at £228 for his best long pure Texels.

If anything, the very best Mules looked just a few pounds cheaper than the last 3 weeks, but there were not many top-class sorts forward, there were in fact plenty of second and third class Mules.

The best of the Mules to around £102 and smaller leaner types a fast trade.

Plenty of strong Texel types £137-£150 with all the best end £162 and above.

The top 6 pens averaged £203.33 which shows the quality and size presented for today’s sale.

Overall average for ewes £113.85

Better end rams good to sell but virtually no best with a top call of £170 for a Texel from the Hallam’s at Birchcroft.

Rams ave £131.56.
