116 BARREN, OTM AND FEEDING COWS overall average 180.4p/kg or £1232.1

(Auctioneer Oliver Hiles)

Good numbers from a wide geographical area with 58 vendors showing cows in the market today and receiving a fair and honest price that is 9 pence dearer on the week for generally a better standard of cow.  Flesh remains the order of the day with both suckler cows and the B/W seeing an improved trade with more bidding and improved orders all round the ring.  Best sorts (especially if younger) easily over 220p with even the better natives (as long as they are meat) up and around £2/kg.  Best today topped at 248p for a 30 mnth heifer with the best cow at 226 for a Simmental from Messrs Hudson, Barrow Moor.  Still plenty of leaner, hard wintered cows about and the men were there at ringside to buy anything with potential for feeding.
