Livestock & Dairy: Bakewell Market

Bakewell Market Report Monday 23rd September

Decent entries in all departments with a full line up of buyers operating and excellent prices achieved.

The Blue Tongue disease outbreak continues to advance from the Eastern Counties with the latest map of the restriction zone set out below.

We cannot tell what changes might occur in the coming week, but please check before you come to market next week in case any change in zone affects your farm.  We will include any further changes in Friday’s Store List.

If you have any queries about whether you should be coming to Bakewell, please contact Alastair Sneddon on 07973 982441

Another substantial entry of 132 OTM and feeding cos with top figures 248p and £2,631.  The average was a very respectable 180.7 pence.

Calf numbers down a bit at 67 possibly due to the weather.  Trade good – bulls to £520 and heifers to £450.

In the sheep department the 1,129 lambs looked well sold with the best to 348p.

The SQQ average was 282.3p making an average lamb in the 39-45kg bracket £120.

A good show of 450 cull sheep saw ewes to £199 to average £99.44 for a very mixed selection.
