Livestock & Dairy: Bakewell Market

Bakewell Market Report 2024-11-11

Decent entries in all sections with 626 cattle and 1,582 sheep on offer from 220 vendors.

Small changes to the Blue Tongue zones in the last week, but none close enough to affect Bakewell customers.

332 store & breeding cattle on offer with plenty of demand and some remarkable figures achieved.

A shortage of breeding stock with vendors clearly saving them up for next week when there will be several large consignments coming, details in this report.

Top figures £1,940 for steers ave £1,085, an astonishing £2,100 for heifers to average £891 and £1,300 for feeding bulls.

All categories in great demand with bidders clearly encouraged by results in the finished cattle ring.

There were 110 finished cattle forward with top figures 378p and £2,566 per head.

The average for the 51 heifers was 313.9 pence/kilo and a cracking £1,840 per head.

If you have finished cattle to sell and fancy giving Bakewell a try speak to Oliver Hiles on 07801 530899.

Another good turnout of 131 OTM and feeding cows with top figures 276p and £2,553 per head.

The average looked very good at 190.4p.

53 calves this week with bulls to £475 and heifers £435, so clearly plenty of demand.

Full steam ahead in the sheep section with new buyers operating and trade very buoyant.  Top figures 369p and £178.14 per head.

The SQQ average 308.9 pence with the overall 308.6p indicating a strong trade for the heavier well meated lambs.

A good selction of 483 cull sheep with ewes to £245 and the average settling at £106.33 for a mixed sample.

UP 9 PENCE ON THE WEEK

Unreal – Cows are even dearer than last week with 131 on offer today and all buyers came with improved orders to buy cows.

11 best cows topped 240p and up to a high of 276p for a 4 ½ year old pure Limmy from Joe Nicholls, Draycott in the Clay who had 2 other cows at £2553 and £2215.  Matt Tomlinson had 2 at 274p and 270p.  Cows are certainly on the rise and now is the time to sort out the passengers on farm and market them in the best way possible at Bakewell Livestock Market.  Once again feeding cows are in demand with the buyers keen for cows in lean condition to improve their value.  For any information on how we market cows at Bakewell, give me a call on 07801 530899.
