Bakewell Market Report Monday 13th July
Another hot day with modest entries and only 485 cattle and 909 sheep on offer.
The finished cattle trade was thankfully well up on the week, OTM cattle also better and store cattle maintaining the current very high level of prices.
The store & breeding cattle section had a decent summer show of 227 head with a full line up of buyers working hard to secure their favoured lots.
Steers sold to £2,200, heifers £2,240 and feeding bulls £1,750.
In the breeding section cow & calf outfits hit £3,00 and Lim stock bulls sold at £3,500 and £3,000.
Finished cattle numbers looked good at 117 and trade was very much better than we have seem for many weeks. Top figures 468p and £3,298.
Out usual barometer of trade the results for the 54 heifers saw the per kilo average at a remarkable 373.2 pence and the per head figure £2,220.
OTM numbers holding up well at 83 with prices doing the same.
Top figures 315p and £2,618 and the average very satisfactory at 254.3p/kg and £1,699 per head.
58 Calves on offer with trade well up to expectations bulls to £820 and heifers £520.
In the sheep section lambs came in well with plenty of full trailer loads and a total of 753 on offer.
Trade easing as expected at this time of year, but not by much.
Top figures 429p/kg and £225.38 per head.
The SQQ average 384.5p making a typical lamb in the 39-45 kg bracket worth £163.37.
142 cull sheep forward with ewes to £262 to average a hefty £175.12

- We advise that Purchasers/Hauliers seek Drover assistance prior to loading cattle/sheep.
- If Purchasers/Hauliers choose to load livestock without Drover assistance, they do so voluntarily and at their own risk.
- It is the Purchasers/Hauliers responsibility to chain and secure gates.

A tremendous trade once again and although the average is a little less, trade certainly was not with some saying it was even better on the week. 5 better or younger sorts north of £3/kilo with Tim Fountain at the top of the pile at 315p for a 36 month old Limmy heifer with the best cow at 306p for a young and shapey Limmy for Nigel Birch. Cows remain in short numbers and trade is here for them. If you have any to sell, give me a call and we can sell them to best advantage in Bakewell.

Very few tups forward to a top of £200 for a small well shaped Texel.
