Livestock & Dairy: Bakewell Market

Bakewell Market Report 20-09-2021

 BAKEWELL MARKET

Monday 20th September

886 Cattle and 1,574 Sheep forward making a very busy day at Bakewell.

There was a bumper crop of 571 Store & Breeding Cattle which sold on a tremendous trade with outstanding prices from start to finish.

Heifers reached £1,430, Steers £1,460 and Feeding Bulls to £980.  In the breeding section Cows & Calves reached £1,600.

Demand for the stores is still being underpinned by the strong demand for finished cattle.  There were 136 this week with top figures £1,967 and 288p/kg.  The heifer average was back a bit at 220.8p largely due to the quality of the entry.

OTM cattle remain in very strong demand and the entry of 117 included examples at 227p/kg and £1,702 per head.  The overall average was a hefty 141.7p.

More Calves about with 62 on sale, Bulls to £425 and Heifers to £290.

In the Sheep department numbers were down following a variety of sheep sales which will have left many vendors with 6 day stand still issues.

The 110 lambs looked well sold on the day with the best to 287p and a top gross price of £127.02.

There were 466 Cull Sheep with ewes topping at £158 to average £82.61 for an entry which included a good many plainer sorts.
