Bakewell Market Report 2021-09-27

 BAKEWELL MARKET

Monday 27th September

Bakewell customers managed to find sufficient fuel to attend the market together with some 787 Cattle and 1,798 Sheep.

Buyers too were out in force and trade in all sections was well up to snuff.

The Store & Breeding Cattle department had a decent entry of 484 cattle with trade remaining very strong.  Steers hit a remarkable top price of £1,600 with Heifers to £1,300 and Feeding Bulls to £980.

In the Breeding Cattle Cows and Calves peaked at £1,620 with in calf heifers to £1,520 and Stock Bulls to £2,120.

Turning to the OTM section 118 animals sold on another solid trade with the best on offer to 218p and £1,659,

The overall average was similar to last week at 141.8p.

118 Barren, OTM and Feeding Cows Overall Average 141.8p

(Auctioneer Oliver Hiles)

Similar numbers and an almost identical average to last week, and in fairness for the last 4 weeks the trade remains stable at a very high level and some outstanding returns throughout.  As is the case at this time of year, many of the cows are starting to show the effects of the weather and come very cold cows about at present, but a number of Feeding buyers at ringside ensured that any cows with ‘potential’ were purchased to return to farms to grow.  Top price on the day was a lovely sweet heifer (32 mnths) from Paul Willmot, Ashover at 218p with another 30 mnth heifer at 200p.  Best cows sold to 182p for a super pure Char from Messrs Pilkington, Kniveton.  Natives saw Hereford to 163p, Devon to 149p, Longhorn to 166p and Angus to 165p.
