CAPTION COMPETITION

Last week’s caption competition attracted no fewer than 17 entries and caused the selection committee a great deal of head scratching.

There were 3 responses all referring to Bully’s star prize and we felt that we could not pick one of the three.

There was a very amusing politically in correct suggestion which had to be excluded and there was even a finely crafted poem, but in the end simplicity prevailed.

The winner – Paul Shardlow of Shirland

‘BID UP OR YOU’LL MISS THE BOAT’

The runner up was Tanya Kelsey, Shottle

‘SURF & TURF’

136 Barren, OTM and Feeding Cows Overall Average 128.1p

(Auctioneer Oliver Hiles)

A bumper entry this week with 136 Barren and OTM Cattle from 62 vendors and selling to 16 different accounts at ringside.  Competition at its finest in the live ring at Bakewell.  The overall average is up 3 pence on the week with a good deal of cold cattle from outside in the entry today.  But as Bakewell is a Green Market buyers can buy to feed out of the ring to improve their value for another day and thank goodness that this facility exists at this time of year.  Top price today was a 1 calf 32 mnth old Stabilizer Cow selling at 213p with another 1 calf pure Blonde Cow just behind at 212p.  Best Limousin Cows 174-180p today with all the better sorts generally over 160p and plenty of coloured feeding cows 120-150p.
