Despite more COVID related uncertainty and concerns about the hospitality sector in particular trade remained good in all departments.
There was only a modest entry of 108 Store & Breeding Cattle, but plenty of buying power present to ensure a decent trade. Steers sold to £1,150, Heifers £1,400 and Feeding Bulls £800.
Cows & Calves sold at £1,290 and £1,200.
There was a total of 97 Finished Cattle on offer with quality rather mixed.
The best on offer sold at 279p/kg and £1,906 per head.
The average for the 53 heifers was 235.4p which gives a good idea of price levels.
72 OTM and Feeding Cows on parade with top figures 170p/kg and £1,427 per head.
The average at 123.7p indicated a few plainer dairy types in the sample.
49 Calves forward with Bulls to £320 and Heifers £295.
A good show of sheep and a fantastic trade throughout. 1,382 lambs sold to 348p and £170.93 per head with the SQQ average at a remarkable 294.8p.
In the Cull Sheep section Ewes peaked at £199 with a tremendous average at £108.11.

72 Barren, OTM and Feeding Cows Overall Average 123.7p
(Auctioneer Oliver Hiles)
More than expected for the week before the Christmas break. Trade generally very fast for all cows, although one or two firms had already stopped taking cows in readiness for clearing up the lairages before Christmas. Various problems once again with COVID 19 and orders being cancelled, but Bakewell had a marvellous trade for all. Clean Heifers peaked at 158p. Better beef cows 150p plus with plenty of cross bred cows 135-150p.
