Plenty of farmers and a good show of stock for the Ukraine Fundraising Week.

The Store & Breeding Cattle department was well supported with 466 head on offer, a great trade and a total clearance.

New faces around the ring and fierce competition saw Steers to £1,590, Heifers £1480 and Feeding Bulls £1,130.

In the Finished Cattle section a decent turnout of 132 animals saw top prices of 303p and £2,116 with the 65 Heifers averaging an outstanding 249p.

STORE & BREEDING CATTLE – (Auctioneer Alastair Sneddon)

A useful entry of 466 head sold on a great trade with every animal changing hands and tremendous prices achieved.  There is plenty of talk about the massive increases in the cost of fuel, fertiliser and feed, but so far this has not affected the prices of cattle.

There were only a few breeding stock which were mainly sold as grazing cows with prices in the £800 – £1,240 bracket.

 Feeding Bulls

Then followed a dozen or so Feeding Bulls which included:

£880 Hfd x 10 mnths TA & DE Spooner, Leek
£1030 Char x 8-11 mnths D Smith, High Green
£700 Mont x 12 mnths TG Adams, Calwich
£1130 Char x 23 mnths R Morley, Bawtry

241 Steers ave £963

A great trade and a remarkable average bearing in mind that there were a great number of Stirks in the entry selling in the £400 to £500 bracket.

Strong cattle were very dear as the figures below will demonstrate.  Big bunches sold particularly well for those vendors with level lots.

Angus & Hereford crosses proving popular and some outstanding results for Black and Whites.
