A well supported market for the May Day Bank Holiday Monday sale with 627 cattle and 991 sheep on offer.
The majority of the regular buyers were in attendance and good levels of trade were maintained in all sections.
There were 438 Store & Breeding cattle on offer which included an entry of 70 steers from 1 vendor.
Trade was much as last week with steers to £1,480, heifers £1,280 and feeding bulls £1,050, Cows & Calves sold to £1,620.
Plenty of steam in the Finished cattle ring with 72 on offer. Top figures 296p and £2,019 per head.
The average for the 44 heifers was a decent 264p/kg and a remarkable £1,583 per head. The average was a very creditable 184.6p for the 89 on offer.
Just 28 calves this week, but a good trade with bulls to £435 and heifers £340.
In the sheep section there were rather more spring lambs with 140 on offer selling to 344p and £156.40 per head. The SQQ average was 258.3p somewhat indicative of the proportion of ‘End of Season’ sorts in the sample.

A super show of cattle for the Bank Holiday sale and a full line up of buyers led to trade within a penny of last weeks record prices. 23 cattle today topped at £2 kilo and sold to a high price of 230p for a Blue x heifer (33 mnths from Mick & James Forrester, Tean with a Lim from the same home at 219p. Angus cows (4yrs) topped at 223p (£1770) for David Critchlow, Sheen.

A stunning average and some excellent cattle on offer. Keith Harrop had a super run of heifers today topping at 296p £1770 for a lovely B/W Blue and also topped the gross at £2019 for a jet-black Limousin. Don Lownds had 293p or £1799 and Richard Shaw 287p or £1911. 4 Hereford to 256p, 6 Angus to 269p and a Shorthorn at 250p.
