BAKEWELL MARKET

Monday 20th June 2022

With plenty happening on farms the market was a little quieter and those vendors who made early deliveries before heading home were well rewarded with strong prices in all sections.

Stock numbers were 586 Cattle and 1,005 Sheep.

There was good seasonal entry of 315 Store & Breeding Cattle which were well received by the line up of buyers.  The short finish cattle were extremely dear with plenty in the £1,400 to £1,600 bracket.

Steers sold to £1,610, Heifers £1,445 and Feeding Bulls £1,400.

In the Breeding Sections Cows and Calves reached £1,900 and Stock Bulls £3,000.

74 Barren, OTM and Feeding Cows Overall Average 190.1p or £1281

(Auctioneer Oliver Hiles)

A better entry of cows this week and some super quality about and a fantastic average.  30 Cows today topped £2/kilo and selling to a high of 239p (£1931) for a Blue x (former show calf) from Michael and Ellie Wynne, Snitterton.  Plenty more continental 217-230p with Hereford up to 216p.  I fully accept that cows are dear everywhere, but while they are at this price in the market you won’t find a better place to sell them.  If you have not sold any at Bakewell for a while, give me a call on 07801 530899 and I would be happy to give a no obligation confidential opinion of what could be achieved in the market at Bakewell.
