Livestock & Dairy: Bakewell Market

Bakewell Market Report 27-06-2022

BAKEWELL MARKET

Monday 27th June 2022

Having had enough fine weather to deal with the grass and shear and sort sheep farmers were back in the market with greater numbers of stock comprising 603 cattle and 1,537 sheep.

Store & Breeding cattle numbers were at seasonal levels with 328 head on offer.  Trade remains very buoyant for all ages and qualities of cattle, Steers hit £1,595, Heifers £1,370 and Bulls £1,500.

In the Cow and Calf section the top figure was £1,800.

Finished Cattle were forward in reasonable numbers with 118 on offer.  Top figures 308p and £2,100 per head.

Average for the 60 heifers was 241 pence and for the steers 249 pence.  The average price of a steer a healthy £1,573.

OTM numbers tight at 91 with lack of supply and strong demand driving prices.  Top figures 258p/kg and £2,174 per head.  The average at 190.6p says it all.

More activity in the calf department with 65 on offer.  Bulls made up to £395 and Heifers £350.

Over in the sheep section lambs were out in force with the largest entry of lambs this season.

The 831 lambs met a solid trade with top figures of 334p and £159.30.

The SQQ average was 300.4p, but we will have to wait until later in the week to know how that figure compares to other outlets.

A large entry of 537 cull sheep saw ewes to £184 to average £124.82.
