(Auctioneer Oliver Hiles)                     (8 pence less on the week)

Another very big entry of cows today from 56 vendors from a very wide area including a couple of new vendors today.  Some of the heavy meated and non Farm Assured cows today would be a little less money, the B/W’s would be similar on the week.

Trade is still miles ahead of last year when in 2021 this week we had 121 cows to average 132p.  Best OTM heifers today sold at 218p and 210p with best cow at 209p from Stuart Mycock.

Exactly the same average as last week with meat very much in demand.  Some plainer cold clean cattle today in the entry sold for further feeding to five different accounts and would look well sold, but that is the advantage of selling in a green (restricted) market.  Blues peaked at 274p for a super sort from Brian & Harold Ponsonby, Tideswell Moor with other good meated sorts 250p plus.  7 Angus to 250p, 4 Hereford to 254p and 2 B/W to 188p.

STORE & BREEDING CATTLE – (Auctioneer Alastair Sneddon)

Numbers almost the same as last week with 585 store cattle on offer.  The cross section of the cattle on sale did not include as many strong sorts as last week.

There were some good runs of quality young cattle which saold very well indeed and the short finish smart cattle came to some very satisfactory figures.

Trade was solid for all sorts and prices remained firm right to the last beat in the ring.

29 Feeding Bulls

A few more on offer this week including:

£900 S Horn x 17 mnths R Mosley & Son, Elton
£890 S Horn x 8 mnths N & J & S Taylor, Hollow Meadows

 302 Steers ave £878

More small and young cattle this week and a lesser proportion of the strong short finish types.

A significant number of weathered cattle that have suffered from the lack of grass.

All types found a ready market at a suitable price level and every animal changed hands.

Angus crosses attracted the fiercest competition some outstanding results.
