Livestock & Dairy: Bakewell Market
Bakewell Market Report for Monday 3rd August 03-08-2020
More Cattle, but less Sheep this week with 568 and 1,345 in the respective departments.
Outstanding demand in all sections with some remarkable highlights that are detailed below.
A larger entry of 269 Store Cattle and sincere thanks to those who answered the Facebook call for entries at the end of last week. Those who were able to send stock will be highly delighted with the results.
Steers sold to £1,360 with an astonishing average of £923 despite a number of black & Whites in the entry. Heifers peaked at £1,340 with an overall average of £908 and Feeding Bulls to £1,075.
We are now looking for entries for next Monday – the message is that Bakewell buyers want your Store Cattle now rather than be faced with an oversupply in the Autumn.
Give it some thought and if you want to talk it over, call Alastair Sneddon on 07973 982441.
Finished Cattle were out in decent numbers with 114 on parade. Trade holding up well with the best on offer to 247p and £1,399.
Steers averaged 198.0p with 58 Heifers returning 201.2p.
118 OTM and Feeding Cows this week with trade beyond most people’s comprehension. Top figures 198p and £1,512 with an almost unbelievable overall figure of 140.8p.
A better turnout of 67 Calves looked well sold with Bulls to £385 and Heifers £326.
In the Sheep department numbers we well down following the festival, the 1,132 Lambs hit a top figure of 249p with the SQQ average at 213.8p despite a very mixed sample.
206 Cull Sheep sold on an excellent trade with Ewes to £135 to average £88.01.
