THURSDAY LUNCHTIME SHEEP SALE REPORT

20th January 2022

 

1,123 Sheep including 724 Finished Lambs, 238 Cull Sheep and 161 Store Sheep

 

Another excellent entry of 1123 sheep included 724 lambs.  Despite trade easing throughout the week demand still good for the best meated lambs regardless of weight but half meated and plain sorts being harder to sell.  Best butchers lambs sold to 336p/kg twice with heavy butchers lambs to 297p/kg with a top gross of £149/head.  The overall average 257.56p/kg.

Cull Sheep

A larger entry this week of 238 Cull Ewes and Rams met a brisk trade throughout with Texel ewes to £128 and Mules to £124

 

Ewes to £128  Ave: £86.23

Rams to £149  Ave: £63

 

Store Sheep

A total of 161 Store Sheep this week included 131 in lamb ewes, demand for these was very brisk with potential buyers travelling from Lincolnshire as was as neighbouring counties.  The annual consignment from Hayden Fletcher attracted very brisk bidding with his Texels to £170 and Mules to £185 with his 72 ewes averaging £180.  Two pens of Aberfield x Suffolk ewes sold to £164 and £162/head with Beltex/Texel ewes to £150/head.

 

Just 30 Feeding Lambs were all long-term sorts with Suffolks to £66 and Texel to £63.
