THURSDAY LUNCHTIME SHEEP SALE REPORT

2nd March 2023

 

548 Sheep including 319 Lambs, 158 Culls & 71 Store Sheep

 

A total entry of 548 sheep included 319 lambs.  First new season lambs of the season for Thursday saw the best selling at 288p/kg with the average of 264.367p/kg.  In the old season lambs 316 on offer of mixed quality with best meated sorts peaking at 280p/kg (twice) and overall market average 224.35p/kg.

Cull Sheep

In the cull ewes and rams best meated sorts in short supply to peak at £118 for continental with Mules in the £85-£95 bracket.  A large proportion of horned and plain ewes was reflected in the overall average.

Store & Breeding Sheep

Just 71 store and breeding sheep on offer this week included 47 in lamb sheep with a special entry of 5 Grey Faced Dartmoor  ewes scanned in lamb to the Dartmoor attracting keen bidding.  One ewe close to lambing sold at £140 with a further 4 selling at £132 each.  Mule ewe hoggs scanned in lamb to Beltex sold to £102 (twice)

24 feeding lambs sold to a top of £68 to average £60.92.
