 High Peak Livestock Society Hill Sheep Sale Report

Saturday 15th October 2022

 

A catalogued entry of 3066 sheep was sold on behalf of the High Peak Livestock Society.  In the pre-sale show for the hill rams some excellent classes were judged by Eli Tattersal from Lancashire.

Some excellent classes forward being mainly Blue Faced Leicester.

Champion pen went to I Gregory with his Cheviot.

 

The sale commenced at 10am with the ewe lambs with buyers selective in their purchases.  With the keep situation still a problem the smaller ewe lambs were harder to sell.

The shearling ewes followed and demand increased with buyers for all types as many local farmers had held off earlier in the season due to lack of keep.

Demand in the draft ewe section followed much in line with the shearlings with the better younger sorts well bid for.

The final section of the day was the breeding ram section which commenced soon after 1.30 with a packed ring still present.  Quality was the call of the day with the demand for crossing Leicesters the highlight of the day, with many buyers traveling from as far as Wales as well as numerous locals.
