HPLS Sale of Suckled Calves 14-10-2022

HIGH PEAK LIVESTOCK SOCIETY SUCKLED CALF SALE

FRIDAY 14TH OCTOBER 2022

An entry of just over 700 cattle was received for the prestigious HPLS October Suckled Calf Sale.  The very long dry Summer resulted in a lack of grass in the Peak District which meant that many of the cattle were smaller than we had seen in previous years.

The breeding and overall quality of the cattle from the HPLS producers is never in doubt and some super runs of well-bred calves came forward for sale.

Averages were up in 2019, 2020 and 2021 and it was expected that this year cattle would be less money, but this was not the case with the bull average up and the steers and heifers very much on par with last year.

Today the vast majority of cattle were 4-7 months and would be classed as long-term projects and most would get turned out next Summer for grazing.

The sale progressed quickly with the cattle arriving at the sale ring in good sized even bunches with a few special individuals picked out to be sold on their own.

The sale commenced at 10.30am with the hammer knocked down on the last 3 heifers in the ring for 2.03pm.

Bagshaws would like to thank all for making the sale such a success.  The hauliers for delivering and removing the cattle so promptly, the vendors for showing some wonderful cattle once again, the Bagshaws team in the market for handling the cattle so well allowing the sale to progress so promptly and the buyers who return year on year to support the sale in buying cattle.
