The first and most important sale of the year to date is the January edition of the High Peak Livestock Society suckled calf sale. A grand total of 601 cattle made their way to Bakewell on a very cold morning with many local roads iced up. None of this did anything to deter any buyers who travelled from all corners of the county to bid for the quality suckled calves.
The general standard of cattle was good with best end better than ever, but many of the cattle would be young and suitable for summer grazing when the time comes.
The sale started promptly with the bulls at 10.30am and a larger number this year, then followed by the steers and heifers. All cattle were sold in good, even sized bunches and the last lot sold through the ring at approximately 1.30pm.
Trade was good with the averages up across the board as they were last year, and have been for the last 4 years.
Bagshaws would like to thank all for making the January sale a success once again. We now have the book open for the March event which will take place on Friday 15th March for which we look forward to another sizeable entry.
