HPLS Sale of Suckled Calves 2021-10-15

HIGH PEAK LIVESTOCK SOCIETY SUCKLED CALF SALE

FRIDAY 15TH OCTOBER 2021

A wonderful entry of 876 Suckled Calves was received for the High Peak Livestock Society Annual Sale on Friday.

Averages were up in 2019 and 2020, and as expected way up again this year with the unprecedented beef trade at present bolstering the confidence of the bidders.  With this in mind there is still a certain amount of resistance to get over carried away with the majority of the cattle today only 4-7 months old and would be classed as long-term projects.  No doubt the stronger cattle, the better the trade that was experienced with the best bred and farmed cattle an absolute joy to sell.

The general quality of the cattle was exceptional with the standard improving year on year and all credit should go to the High Peak producers for their dedication in sending such high-quality stock.

The sale progressed well with the cattle arriving at the ring in good even bunches for the bidders at ringside.  The sale commenced at 10.30 with all through the ring by 3pm and the vast majority away to their new homes by 5pm with just a few ‘second loads’ for later collection.

Bagshaws would like to thank the hauliers for their help in getting the cattle to and from the market, their staff for the safe and efficient way in which they handled the stock in the market and the buyers for coming to Bakewell, many from a long distance, to secure the Peak District Suckled Calves.
