Livestock & Dairy: Leek Market

Leek Market Report 26-10-2021

A superb day in the Dairy Ring yesterday saw a 100% clearance and 222 milkers sold in just under 4 hours!

Commercials topped at £1820 for a fresh heifer giving 30kg from Messrs Easom.

A tremendous crowd gathered for the dispersal on behalf of the Carter family of Rugby no doubt drawn by the obvious quality on offer. With an annual average of 10,000kg+ and superb herd health, they really were the complete package.

The standard was set with the first cow through the ring reaching £2460. An August calved second calver by Cogent Supershot, she was sold giving 44.4kg and went to John Bayley of Bilstone, Nuneaton.

Another Supershot daughter also reached £2460. Calve with her third also in August she was giving just over 58kg and went to Messrs Swindells of Chelmorton.

Topping the day however was a fresh Redrock-View Klutch heifer at £2520. These were some of the first heifers to calve in the UK by this bull and attracted great interest. She caught the eye of Vic Truman of Melton Mowbray who also took other heifers by Mardi Gras and the same bull at £2300 and £2280.

A buoyant trade right to the end, the herd averaged a superb £1467.
