Bakewell Market Thursday Lunchtime Sheep & Store Lamb Sale Thursday 14th August
2,307 Sheep including 1,905 Store Lambs, 306 Finished Lambs & 96 Cull Sheep
1,905 Store Lambs ave £119/head
A good strong start to the store sheep season with an increased entry and despite a number of sheep showing the effects of the dry Summer and lack of keep, trade was well up on the year to average £119/head, up on last year’s return of £103.
All types meeting strong demand to a large ring of prospective purchasers with reports of the longer term types looking best sold of all.
The next store lamb sale is on Friday 29th August for which we are still taking entries.

Just 96 cull sheep today included a large proportion of hill breeds with an overall average of £118.23 not reflecting the outstanding trade for all types.
Pure Texels to £205, Texel x to £192, Suffolks to £182, Cheviot Mule to £188, Mule to £172, Wiltshire to £136, Swale to £119, Dartmoor to £110 and Welsh to £110.
