Livestock & Dairy: Bakewell Market

Bakewell Store Lambs Friday 29th August

A catalogued entry of 5,655 entered, being some 2,000 up on the same sale last year and a trade that would look very respectable given the lack of keep and reduced trade for finished lambs.

A large gathering of purchasers from Derbyshire, Staffordshire, Nottinghamshire, Shropshire, Cheshire, Lincolnshire, Norfolk and Cumbria.  Shorter term lambs looking best sold with some longer term types showing the lack of grass and meeting a more selective trade.

Store lambs sold to a top of £130 to return an average of £101.80 with plenty of interest in the ewe lambs with a run of 214 Suffolks from one farm to a top of £165 to average £135 all through.

The next sale is in a fortnights time on Friday 12th September for which we are still taking entries.
