Machinery Dispersal Report-Hollies Farm, Marston Montgomery Saturday 26th July

The retirement dispersal on behalf of Mr John Glover of Hollies Farm, Marston Montgomery, Nr Ashbourne attracted a massive crowd from throughout the UK together with bidders from Ireland and the North of Scotland and with just over 500 vehicles in the car park the crowd swarmed round the lots, and the bidding was heated.

With around 30 vintage and classic tractors together with two excavators a telehandler and Honda Quad Bike lotted bidding was fierce right from the start.

John Glover and his late wife Barbara had been well known in the area having undertaken hedgecutting and drainage work together with a superb collection of Marshall and Field Marshall tractors and an excellent run of 7 Classic Deutz’s from the 1970’s and 80’s.

The main pull of the day was obviously the vintage and classic tractors as the Glover family had amassed a superb collection with everything starting and running on both the day before the sale and sale day itself. The classic Marshalls commenced with a model M on number 1178 believed to be from 1941 which achieved £12,500 to a Cheshire collector.

At the start of the run of the Field Marshalls was a Series I Contractor on No. 1302 which achieved a superb £13,500.

The Series II Field Marshalls topped at £8,900 for a Contractor with Winch on No.4193 with others at £7,100.

Obviously, some of the major stars had to be the Series III Field Marshalls with the orange livery Series IIIA on No.16300 achieving an excellent price of £19,300 purchased by a local farmer/contractor with another Derbyshire potential purchaser unhappily leaving the field having been finally outbid.

Within the other Classic Tractors:

Then came a range of Modern Classics including:

The catalogue revealed that the Glover family had been avid uses of Deutz tractors with 6 of them in the sale including the late Barbara Glover’s favourite DX6.05 4WD on which she used to do many hours of hedgecutting. This famous local tractor with over 9,000 hours on the clock on a G Plate achieved a resounding £16,600.

  • The Deutz DX140 Optitrac Powermatic 4WD was a real blast from the late 1970’s sold on a T Plate with 8,320 hours on the clock she achieved a superb £14,000

The farms Matbro had been extremely well kept and received paint approximately 8 years ago and flew away to £10,300. With the more modern John Deeres being a 6420 S 4WD (03’) 7,520 hours at £23,600 and the 6320 4WD (03’) on 6,700 hours at £18,600.

Thanks, must be given to all the setting up team and to Mr Glover and his friends as a superb day was had by all and both the ice cream man and the caterers had to send out for further provisions to keep everyone sustained prior to the end of selling.
