Leek Market Report
A good early month entry with several bigger runs of cattle from the Howe family and David Brailsford of Ashover.
Top of the day £2250 for a smart Pedigree Holstein heifer from Phillip & Marilyn Critchlow of Cubley sold giving 31kg.
Mark Shepherd from Birchills at Hassop topped the cows with a June calve Pedigree 2nd Calver sold giving 49kg at £2130.
Trade was very bouncy from start to finish with a run of second and third calves Friesian type cows from the Howe family topping at £1800 and two more at £1700. Several purchasers bidding strongly but leaving for home having not fulfilled their orders.
In the youngstock a sweet run from Roger Cooke of Woodseaves saw August 2021 maiden heifers to £670 and £610 and Norwegian Red x maiden heifers to £635.
Herd sales coming forward for August with July Pedigree sale on 19th of the month.

Another bouncy trade in the dairy shed saw a smashing heifer from the Critchlow family of Cubley top at £2540 with others from the same home at £2280 and £2180.
Cows topped at £2280 for a second calver from regular vendors, the Shepherd family of Bakewell.
Shorthorns were in strong demand with a pedigree heifer from Shirley Kirkham reaching £1940.
Various herd sales have been booked with dates to be announced shortly.

Dairy trade continues to soar with an Ayrshire cow fresh with her third topping the day from Messrs Weston of Roston. By Kid Red PP POS, she was sold giving 48kg and went to Messrs Minshall of Tean at £3000.
Heifers peaked at £2380 from Messrs Shepherd of Bakewell for an ABS Barrett daughter with another from the same home by Claynook Denim daughter at £2360. The 5 heifers from this home averaged £2232.
Numerous others passed the £2000 mark with all milkers averaging £1963.

The dispersal sale on behalf of Mr Carl Pickworth trading as E T Pickworth and Son Ltd attracted very
wide interest including purchasers from Aberdeenshire, Devon, Suffolk and all surrounding counties.
The principal items including the New Holland T.6080 tractor, grain dryer and grain trailers saw very
spirited bidding and achieved excellent sale results.
In the smaller lots;
• Ritchie Sheep Weighing Crate £320
• Workshop Wheel Changing Trolley £210
• New Holland Pickup Hitch £150
• Diagonal Cattle Barriers Up to £55 each
There was a small range of machinery including;
• Dowdeswell 140 MA Series 5 Furrow Reversible Plough £3,000
• 8 Metre Hydraulic Folding Pigtail Cultivator £1,520
• Dowdeswell 4 Metre Combi Drill £2,000
As detailed above wide interest had been shown in the main items with;
• 14 Ton AS Marston Grain Trailer £9,000
• Master Super 120-12 Ton Mobile Dryer £32,500
• New Holland T.6080 4WD (40k-2009-6,700 Hours) £25,400
The small range of included items saw;
• 20ft AS Marston Twin Axle Beaver Tail Plant Trailer with Ring Hitch £6,500
• Massey Ferguson 50 HX 4WD Digger Loader (J Reg) £8,200
• Twin Axle Hydraulic Hi-Ab Trailer £2,560

Dairy trade continues to go from strength to strength with very few animals selling below £1700 despite the superb silaging weather and a mixed quality on offer.
John Stone of Onecote saw three of his four heifers pass the £2000 mark with British Friesians from Messrs Seabridge of Sandon over £1800. More numbers are needed to satisfy demand. Good entries are already forward for next weeks pedigree sale.
