Leek Market Report
Dairy trade was buoyant again on Tuesday with all categories selling well.
Top price was a very pretty British Friesian heifer from the Kirkby family of Oakham at £2000. Hot in pursuit was a sweet heifer from R Thompson of Sudbury at £1980.
Another heifer from G Brown of Spondon reached £1920 as did a smashing third calver from Adrian Barber of Gnosall. Messrs Brown of Spondon also had a second calver to £1880.
Numerous others were in that £1700 to £1850 bracket.

Machinery Dispersal Report-Yew Tree Farm
The Bagshaws team travelled far north to Huddersfield for the dispersal on the 2nd July on behalf of Mr John Sykes at Farnley Tyas.
John’s family had farmed in the village since 1947 and a large crowd attended the sale with support from a wide area including Ireland, Wales, Yorkshire, Staffordshire and all localised area.
The stars of the show included the Valtra N101 4WD on 11 Plate and a very well kept Manitou MLT 625-75 H Premium Telehandler.
In the smaller lots;

There were a wide array of sheeted doors, gates and other equipment as John Sykes had fabricated many heavy duty gates for use on the farm as a hobby.

The excellent Graham Edwards GET126- 12ft Twin Axle Livestock Trailer achieved £3,540 with a little used Fleming MS-1000 Barrel Spreader at £3,800.
In the tractor section;

- Massey Ferguson 390 c/w Chiltern Loader (F Plate) £12,500
- Same Explorer 2-90 4WD (02) went to a Staffordshire farmer at £14,200
As detailed above, the Valtra 101 4WD had undertaken just over 2,400 hours on a 11 plate and after spirited bidding travelled far away at £29,300.
The Manitou MLT 625-75 H Premium Telehandler was very well kept on a 65 Plate and sold at £26,400 with the short unit spread-a-bale mini model achieving an excellent £5,950.
There was a wide range of non-vat items including churns up to £80, Bamford Belt Drive Grinder at £210 and mini milk cans and mincers up to £105.

Sterndale & Peak Final Dispersal Sale
Deman Rae Tops At Sterndale & Peak
A huge crowd of Holstein breeders and enthusiasts from across the UK and Ireland travelled to Fernydale Farm for the Final Dispersal Sale of the Sterndale & Peak Holstein herd. Owned by Bill Nadin & Yasmin Bradbury who over the years have built up a reputation for breeding excellence based on a solid foundation of prolific cow families with generations of high scoring Excellent cows.
The trade topped at 21,000gns for an outstanding Excellent cow with the overall average for 197 Holsteins coming to £3437 with 23 animals selling for £5,000 or more. Demand for embryos was strong, they topped at 1,250gns to average £961.
Topping the sale at 21,000gns was Sterndale Deman Rae, she was bred from ten Excellent dams going back to Roxy. Her first three dams were Excellent 94 and sired by Snowman, Goldwyn & Kite the next dam by Talent was purchased by Bill & Yasmin for 7,500gns in the Ad Astra Sale in 2006 from Stanhope Holsteins from Vancouver Island. Sterndale Deman Rae was classified Excellent 92 in her third lactation and had recently calved her fourth, her Leasperron Stronger daughter followed her in the ring and sold for 4,800gns, both of these special animals now join the Willsbro Holstein herd in Cornwall.
A beautiful Lambda two year old from the Rae family sold for 7,200gns to the Bunting family from Dumfries. Sterndale Bylambda Rae oozed style, she was bred from a VG87 Byway from a full sister to the dam of the top seller.
Peak Goldwyn Rhapsody is one of the most recognised Holstein cows in the world and several special lines from this legend featured in the sale. Rhapsody was a three time Supreme Champion at UK Dairy Expo and a three time All Britain winner. Selling for 19,500gns was Milliedale Lambda Rhapsody who was sired by Lambda from an Excellent 91 Commander from an Excellent 95 Dusk who topped the 2017 sale at 10,500gns, next dam was the Excellent 97, Peak Goldwyn Rhapsody. This impressive Lambda heifer was purchased by New Chapter Holsteins. Her dam, Milliedale Commander Rhapsody EX91 sold for 5,200gns to the Bunting family from Dumfries who also purchased a July born daughter of Peak Goldwyn Rhapsody EX97 sired by Doorman Darlingo for 9,000gns.
A Sidekick daughter of Peak Goldwyn Rhapsody EX97 sold for 8,500gns to the Willsbro Holstein herd in Cornwall. She was a powerful framed in calf heifer carrying a pregnancy to Peak Tropic for October.
Peak ABS Lambda Rhapsody sold for 8,500gns to Mr Garvey from N. Ireland, she was a great granddaughter of Peak Goldwyn Rhapsody EX97. She had recently calved in her second and has the potential to develop into a high scoring Excellent cow.
One of the standout cow families at Sterndale has been the Ghost cow family and selling for 7,500gns was Sterndale Lindell Ghost a maximum classified second lactation cow who completes ten generations of Excellent classified cows. She was purchased by M&C Millar, Coleraine, N. Ireland. Sterndale Sil Ghost sold for 7,200gns to the McNeil family from Cairnpat Farm near Stranraer. She had classified maximum points in her third lactation and was the ninth generation of direct Excellent cows.
The Jodie cow family has been a major success at Sterndale and selling for 16,000gns was Sterndale Jordy Awe Jodie Red, a ultra stylish show heifer sired by Jordy Red and classified Very Good 87. Her third dam was Sterndale Sterling Jodie Red the All Britain wining two year old in 2014 who sold in the Newabbey Dipsersal for 18,000gns. She was purchased by the Willsbro Holstein herd in Cornwall.

Another bouncy trade for milkers saw a 28kg heifer from Richard Lomas of Calow reach £2110 to Ed Clowes of Kingsley with a second from the same home at £2070 to Andrew Hulme.
Messrs Riley of Longnor saw their 30kg heifer to £2050 to Messrs Moss of Endon.
Ian Ellis of Ashover saw his Shorthorn cross heifer reach £2000 to Messrs Clowes of Dilhorne with a black & white heifer from Skinner Bros of Melton Mowbray to £1990 to Messrs Ford of Twemlow.
Machinery Dispersal Report-Berristow Farm
“Ballistic Trade at Exceptional Dispersal-South Normanton”
The dispersal sale held on the retirement of Mr & Mrs Parsons at Berristow Farm South Normanton was just off Junction 28 of the M1 national motorway and a large crowd attended as there were some exceptionally well-kept machines for genuine sale.
The stars of the show were undoubtably the two John Deere tractors and Merlo telehandler two of which had been owned from new and all of which were in pristine condition.

The exceptionally well-kept John Deere 578 Premium Round Baler with under 4,500 bales worked achieved £9,750 with the trailed Kverneland UN7512 Wrapper at £2,350.
The John Deere 6330 4WD (09 Plate-1,138 hours) sold into Lincolnshire at £35,500 with the 2006 John Deere 6320 4WD (only 941 hours-owned from new) at a massive £43,800. Philip Parsons had owned the Merlo P34-7 Telehandler from new and it was purchased in 2010 and had only 805 hours on the clock. It achieved an excellent result of £40,200 and was purchased by a dairy farmer from Hull on Humberside.
The farm mini digger was an SMC MX 15-2 Model with only 1559 hours on the clock with rubber tracks and sold for an excellent £7,500.

A trailed arboreta wood chipper/pulper unit with self-propelled engine sold for £6,500 with a 1968/1969 Massey Ferguson 135 (No Roll Bar) at £6,000.

Another very successful day in the dairy shed at Leek with 62 passing through the ring of which 57 were milkers with trade again swift.
Topping the day was regular vendor Richard Lomas of Calow for a 28kg heifer by Penman Enterprise. She was clinched by Andrew Hulme of Basford at £2100 who also went onto take a fresh heifer from Andrew Weston of Litton at £2060. Shorthorns from Andrew Beech of Sutton reached £1830 with British Friesians from John and Lesley Kirby of Oakham to £1800.
Cows topped at £1750 for a Danish Red X from the Sharman family of Holbeck, Newark who also saw their smashing run of Montbeliarde X calves top at £390.
The run of 12 Autumn calving cows which included 4 5th-7th calvers from the Jeffery’s family of Sudbury were a smashing trade topping at £1600 to average out at a superb £1485.

The dispersal sale on behalf of Mrs Sarah Williams of Cawthorne, Barnsley attracted a substantial socially distanced crowd and with over 600 lots to sell, lots ranged from a pristine 2015 JCB Articulated Telehandler to pots and pans and farm park toys and ride on go karts.

The Galvanised IAE Comfort Cubicles achieved up to £1,060 per run (29 steel sections).
There was wide interest in the very smart 20ft Steel Export Container which went to a Derbyshire purchaser at £1,720.

Jowett House Farm had been the site of a Maize Maze for many years and the pedal go karts with adjustable seating achieved up to £150 each with various outdoor toys etc up to £240 per lot.
The Hoeker 6m x 15m Alloy Framed Structured Marquee achieved a massive £5,400 with the single axle JF Caterers Van at £5,700.

The farms’ New Holland 945 Conventional Baler achieved £2,600 with the New Holland D1010 Crop Cutter Big Square Baler at £5,100 and a set of wide Simba Ring Rolls at £5,800.
The Amazone UF1501-24 Metre Mounted Sprayer had seen little work in recent years and achieved a very pleasing £10,450.
There was wide interest in Trailers with the Richard Western 12 Ton Tipping Trailer selling for £5,750 and the Ifor Williams 14ft Triaxle Livestock Trailer at £3,300.
Undoubtedly the star of the show was the farms’ 2015 JCB TM 320s Telehandler which had undertaken 3,700 hours and achieved a massive £50,800.
The Case 5140 4WD on an R plate with 10,000 hours sold for £14,700 with the Case 5120 4WD with Trima Loader (N Plate) – 9,000 hours at £11,000.
Within the included items:-
A smart John Deere 2850 4WD with Loader on a J Plate showing 9,400 hours achieved a very pleasing £8,200 with a Westwood T1800 Ride On Mower at £455, a Loddon Cattle Crush at £500 and a Pottinger 3m Power Harrow at £1,820.
